Outlook 2007 is Very Slow, Improve its Performance

Microsoft Outlook 2007 has interactive user interface with various other advance features. But, usually Outlook 2007 users face the following issues:

MS Outlook freezes during start-up, the status bar shows “Loading Dataset..” for a long time and you cannot perform any action on your email items unless that initial “Send/Receive” is complete.

Since many Outlook 2007 users are complaining about slow processing, it is must to find out a suitable solution for dealing with this issue. Reasons behind the slow performance of Outlook 2007 are still unknown but following are some tips that can help you significantly increase the Outlook speed:

1. Rename or delete Extend.dat, Outcmd.dat, Views.dat, and Frmcache.dat files. You can locate the specified files in Windows XP at following locations:

Extend.dat

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Outcmd.dat

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Views.dat

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Frmcache.dat

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

In Windows Vista, you can locate the specified files at following locations:

Extend.dat

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Outcmd.dat

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Views.dat

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Frmcache.dat

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FORMS

After performing the previous action, restart MS Outlook 2007. Your problem will be resolved; but in case, Outlook is still slow then execute the next step.

2. Create a new PST file. If Outlook responses fast with the new PST file then import all of your email items from old PST to new PST and then delete the old PST. But, if the problem still persists then go for next step.
3. Create a new user profile and restart Outlook 2007. This time Outlook performs better than before. Now, you can delete the old profile but if Outlook still responses slow then execute the next step.
4. Disable Outlook Setup add-in on Dell computers that have Media Direct installed. You can disable add-in by following the below given steps:
   a. Open Tools and click Trust Center.

   

   b.Go to Add-ins category and click Go button.

   

   c. Uncheck the add-ins that you suspect are hindering the performance of Outlook.

   

   d. Restart Outlook.
   e. Close the window.

After executing these steps, restart MS Outlook.

5. After executing all of the aforementioned processes if you still face the same issue then uninstall Business contact manager. This will definitely increase Outlook speed by some extent.
