You can transfer Rediffmail emails to Gmail using email forwarding, Gmail’s built-in import feature, a desktop email client, and an email migration tool (for migrating emails from multiple accounts).

Moving forward in this blog, we will discuss each of these methods and see which one is best suited for which use case. However, before jumping to the methods, there are a few prerequisites that you must take care of.

What to Do Before You Transfer Rediffmail to Gmail?

To make sure you do not get any issues when migrating Rediffmail emails to Gmail, make sure to complete these prerequisites:

  • Rediffmail’s free version supports only POP and migrating emails with POP only includes the emails in the Inbox folder. To prevent an incomplete transfer, move all important emails from other folders to the Inbox.
  • If enabled, temporarily turn off the two-factor authentication (2FA). This security feature is not supported in some of the free Rediffmail to Gmail email migration methods that we will discuss.
  • Backup your Rediffmail emails using the native methods. If there are multiple Rediffmail accounts, use a professional IMAP backup software.

What Are The Methods to Transfer Rediffmail to Gmail?

As I said above, there are 4 reliable methods to migrate your emails from Rediffmail to Gmail. Let’s discuss them one by one.

Method 1: Forward Rediffmail Emails to Gmail

This method is best suited for users who want to transfer a few emails or automatically forward new emails from Rediffmail to Gmail.

Forward a Single Email

  • Sign in to your Rediffmail account.
  • Open the email to forward.
  • Select the forwarding option.
  • Enter the destination email address and send the email.

Set up Auto-Forwarding in Rediffmail

Note: (Only for Rediffmail Pro users)

  • Log in to your Rediffmail Pro account.
  • Go to the Settings. Find and choose the auto forward option.
  • Enter the target email address.
  • Choose whether to keep a copy of the email or delete it after forwarding.
  • Save the changes.

Limitations of forwarding emails:

  • To move the old emails, you have to forward each email one by one.
  • The auto-forwarding option only works for new emails and is only available for Rediffmail Pro account users. A free tier user cannot use it.
  • Not suitable to transfer bulk emails from Rediffmail to Gmail.

Method 2: Use Gmail’s Import Mail Option

Google allows you to import your emails and contacts directly from another email account to Gmail. This method will transfer the emails from the Rediffmail Inbox folder using the POP protocol.

Step 1: Go to your Gmail account.

Step 2: Click on the Settings icon and choose the option See all settings.

Step 3: Go to the Account and Import tab and click the Import mail and contacts button.

Step 4: Enter the Rediffmail email address and click Continue.

Step 5: Click Continue. This will send a confirmation email from Gmail to your Rediffmail account.

Step 6: Go to your Rediffmail account and authorize Gmail to export Rediffmail email to Gmail.

Limitations of using the above method to transfer Rediffmail data to Gmail:

  • The emails you sent from your Rediffmail account will not be transferred.
  • This method only transfers emails that are present in the Inbox folder in your Rediffmail account.
  • The process runs in the background, you have no way of knowing how long it will take.

Method 3: Move Rediffmail to Gmail Using an Email Client

If you have a Rediffmail Pro account, this is the best free method for you. In an email client you can add Rediffmail and Gmail accounts using the IMAP protocol. Since this method uses IMAP, you can transfer emails from all the folders, unlike the Gmail import feature that only fetches emails from Rediffmail’s Inbox.

To transfer emails from Rediffmail to Gmail, I am using Outlook. You can use any email client that supports POP/IMAP email accounts. Make sure to enable IMAP for your Rediffmail and Gmail accounts. Then follow the steps below:

Step 1: In Outlook, configure your Rediffmail and Gmail accounts.

For configuring the accounts, use the following settings:

Account Gmail Rediffmail
Protocol POP IMAP POP IMAP
Mail Server pop.gmail.com imap.gmail.com pop.rediffmailpro.com imap.rediffmailpro.com
Port 995 993 995 993
Required SSL Yes Yes Yes Yes

Step 2: From the Rediffmail folder in Outlook, select the emails you want to move to Gmail.

Step 3: Drag and drop the selected emails to the Gmail folder in Outlook.

This method is not limited to only the Rediffmail Pro users. Users with the free Rediffmail account can also use it. But for free account users, the email client will use the POP protocol to fetch the emails. And as I have already told you, using POP you can only transfer the emails from the Inbox folder.

Limitations of using a third-party email client to transfer emails

  • Transferring a large number of emails together may freeze the email client.
  • Dragging emails from one folder to another is a time-taking process and does not guarantee that all the emails will retain their metadata.

How to Do a large-scale Rediffmail to Gmail Email Transfer?

What to Do After Migrating Rediffmail Emails to Gmail?

After moving Rediffmail data to Gmail, do the following to make sure your email communication is not disturbed.

  • Verify the migrated emails and, if required, organize them.
  • To continue receiving new emails from Rediffmail in Gmail, set up auto-forwarding (if available).
  • If Gmail is your new permanent email platform, inform all your contacts so they do not keep sending emails to the old Rediffmail account.
  • Import contacts from the Rediffmail account to Gmail, as the manual methods only transfer emails.
  • If you are keeping the Rediffmail account, enable the 2FA if you had disabled it before migrating emails.

Rediffmail to Gmail: Which Method Should You Choose?

The best method to transfer Rediffmail to Gmail depends on how many emails or mailboxes you are migrating. For a few emails, use the forwarding option. To migrate all the emails from a single Rediffmail account, use either the Gmail’s import mail feature or an email client like Outlook. And for transferring emails in bulk from multiple Rediffmail accounts, use the professional IMAP migration tool.
