Can You Export BlueMail Emails?
Yes, exporting emails from BlueMail is possible. But there is something you must know. BlueMail is only an email client like Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. It does not have its own server where it stores all the incoming and outgoing emails.
It only serves to allow you access to whatever account you already have: Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo, and some other POP/IMAP server. So, anyone who wants to know how to backup BlueMail, what they really need is the answer to how they can get a local copy of what BlueMail is showing them in the mailbox.
However, you cannot download BlueMail mailbox in a single operation. The native method only allows you to either save one email or one folder at a time. Also, the download options are only available on the desktop version of BlueMail. So, there is no dedicated download option for mobile users.
Does BlueMail Export Emails from Android or iPhone?
No. I tried this first, since my phone is where I actually read my mail every day, and I figured there would be some “save” or “download” option buried in a menu somewhere. There was not.
Neither the Android app nor the iPhone app gives you a way to save an email to your device, let alone a whole folder. No export folder option, no download email button, nothing.
I also tried the BlueMail web app, but no luck there. You can read and organize your emails from the web app, but downloading an individual email or exporting a folder is off the table on the web too.
Does BlueMail Do Automatic Email Backup?
There are no automatic backups happening in BlueMail. The platform only synchronizes your inbox with the source email server in real-time so that you can view your emails, but that does not mean that the software does backups for you.
If your original source account is compromised, if you accidentally delete a folder, or if you lose access to your provider, BlueMail will not be able to restore any of the data for you, as there is no such built-in feature for that.
That is, in fact, the entire point of this article. If you want to save BlueMail emails, you have to manually do it using the options we will talk about in the following sections.
What Data Can I Export from BlueMail?
If you often use BlueMail, knowing what you can download and what you cannot, will be useful for you.
- Emails: Yes, BlueMail exports emails. Every method in the next section focuses on this.
- Attachments: These travel along with the message when you export emails to EML or save folder to MBOX. However, you might lose them if you try to print the email as a PDF.
- Contacts: No. BlueMail can sync contacts from your connected account, but there is no export feature for them. You have to back up contacts directly from your actual provider.
- Calendar: No. Same deal. Calendar events live on your connected service, not inside BlueMail, so back those up directly from there.
How to Export BlueMail Emails?
Let us start downloading your emails. The methods given in this section are only doable from the computer version of BlueMail, not on a phone or web app. So, you need to download BlueMail before executing the methods given below.
Export BlueMail Emails as EML
This is the simplest option, and it works on both the free version and BlueMail Plus.
- Open BlueMail and open the email you want to save.
- Click the three-dot menu at the top of the open email.
- Choose Download Email.
- Pick a folder on your computer and hit Save.
- Done. You now have that message saved as a standalone .EML file.
It works, but you have to save one email at a time. There is no way to select and download multiple emails in one click. It is fine to save a few important emails. But not something you want to repeat for a few thousand messages.
You can also save an email as a PDF. But I will not recommend it because the output PDF file does not keep the original email formatting and skips saving the attachments.
Download Folders from BlueMail in MBOX Format
If you’re on BlueMail Plus, there’s a better option to save BlueMail emails that works at the folder level instead of email by email:
- Open BlueMail and pick the account you want to export from.
- Select the folder you want to back up.
- Right-click it and choose Export Folder.
- Pick a save location and give the file a name.
- BlueMail saves the whole folder as an MBOX file.
For BlueMail email export, this method is much better than saving each email as EML. But there’s a catch. You must have a BlueMail Plus subscription to use the method. Also, if you use this method to back up BlueMail, you either get all messages or none. There are no filter options.
Moreover, you can only download one folder at a time. So, if your goal is to download BlueMail mailbox, you have to repeat the process multiple times.
How to Export Complete BlueMail Mailbox in One Go?
The native methods to export BlueMail emails are okay for backing up a handful of emails, but a real pain if what you want is to have your entire mailbox backed up (all folders + all emails + all attachments) in a single file.
If your original email provider provides an option to download the complete mailbox in a single file, use that. But if this is not possible, worry not; you still have a way. If your email server supports IMAP, then using a professional IMAP backup tool, you can save the entire mailbox to your local system in a single operation.
Kernel IMAP Backup and Restore is the tool I used to download my BlueMail mailbox. The tool securely connected to my email provider and fetched all the emails and folders using the IMAP protocol. After that, it gave me multiple options to customize the backup, like include/exclude folders, choosing a specific date range, etc. Finally, I selected the output format as PST, and the tool started saving all my emails.
Here is how the backup tool can help you to export BlueMail emails:
- Save all your folders, including Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Outbox, and other in a single PST file.
- Preserve the original folder structure (including nested folders) with the original folder name.
- Each email retains all the attachments (images, videos, compressed files, PDF, Word, etc.)
- Allows you to save emails for a particular day, month, year, or a specific time period.
- If required, you can save all the emails in individual files in EML, MSG, PDF, DOC, DOCX, HTML, and MHT formats.
After saving the mailbox, you can verify the content of the PST file using Outlook (if you have a subscription) or with a free PST viewer. The backup tool is not free, but it will save you a significant amount of time. For testing, you can use the demo version of the tool and verify if it works for your email provider.
Note: Kernel IMAP Backup and Restore only supports IMAP-enabled accounts. If your email account uses only POP, this tool will not be able to help you with BlueMail emails export.
Which Method Should You Choose to Export BlueMail Emails?
If you only want to export a couple of emails, just use the “Download Email” feature and save them as EML files. This is a fast and convenient way that requires no effort.
If you want to export a specific folder and have the BlueMail Plus subscription, use the “Export Folder” option and save the folder, including emails, as MBOX. However, note that you cannot select which emails to save; all the emails will be exported.
If you want to download BlueMail mailbox in one go, use the Kernel IMAP Backup and Restore. This tool can save all the emails, attachments, and folders to a PST file. During the export, all your BlueMail emails remain safe. The tool does not delete any data.
