OneDrive does not Sync in Windows 10 – How to Fix It?

OneDrive Connection Error

When you notice that the OneDrive node displays an error symbol with a cross sign, it signifies a disconnection between OneDrive and your computer. In this scenario, there are several methods available to re-establish the connection.

• Check if you can connect OneDrive online – First, you need to check that you can connect with the OneDrive easily with the online account.
  1. Go to the Notifications area and right-click to the OneDrive icon.
     
  2. Click the Help & Settings, then choose View Online.

• Update the OneDrive application – If OneDrive fails to sync automatically with Windows 10, you have the option to reset the syncing application by downloading a fresh copy. You can obtain the latest OneDrive application from the official website at https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/microsoft-365/onedrive/download.
  1. After downloading and installing the application, open the OneDrive desktop application.
  2. Input the email address of your Microsoft account and configure it on the computer.
     
• Temporarily turn off the firewall – If you’re utilizing a third-party firewall, it could potentially impact the synchronization of OneDrive. To troubleshoot this, consider temporarily disabling the firewall and verifying whether it resolves the synchronization issue.
  1. Click the Start, then Settings, and go to Update & Security.
  2. Click Windows Security and go to firewall & network protection.
  3. Go to Microsoft Defender Firewall and turn the setting to Off. Save the settings and restart the computer. Then open OneDrive and check if the issue is over.
• Temporarily turn off the antivirus program – The antivirus program may be affecting the OneDrive synchronization. You can turn off the antivirus for some time.
  1. First, click the Start button and type Settings. Then click Update & Security.
  2. Choose Windows Defender and turn the button off. Save the settings.

  Similarly, you can turn off other antivirus programs as well.

• Move the files out from the synced folder – If the OneDrive icon remains stuck or frozen for an extended period, you can address this issue by temporarily pausing the syncing status and moving the files out of the folder.
  1. Go to the Notification area and right-click on OneDrive. Click Help & Settings and click Settings.
     
  2. Choose Pause Syncing for 2 hours.
  3. Go to the Sync folder and then move the large file(s) to another folder.
  4. Go back to settings and resume the syncing.
  5. When the actual syncing is complete, move the file(s) back to the Sync folder.
• Temporarily turn off the proxy settings – You can turn off the proxy settings in the web browser and try to sync OneDrive with online data. In Microsoft Edge, follow the below lines-
  1. Click Start, then go to Settings.
  2. Choose Network & Internet, and at the bottom of the left side, click Poxy.
  3. In the Automatic proxy setup, slide the settings to Off.
  4. In the Manual proxy setup, you can slide the option to turn it to Off.
