Exchange database corruption after using Exmerge.exe
Exmerge.exe utility is Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Program. This particular utility helps in merging Exchange data with another Exchange Server mailbox. Database administrators extract the significant data from user mailboxes on the Exchange Server computer. After that they merge the extracted data to same mailboxes on another Exchange Server computer with the help of Exmerge.exe utility.
Working of Exmerge.exe
Exmerge.exe extracts the desired data from source server into .PST files (Personal Storage file) and then merges the data into Personal Folders of mailboxes on the destination server.
In some cases, after merging the database, one is not able to open the PST file. In MS Exchange Server, when administrator extract mailboxes data in the form of PST file and then merge the extracted data to another Exchange Server system database, the PST database file becomes inaccessible. The reason is compatibility issue or it may be due to PST file permissions or because of the new PST format used by Outlook. Therefore, exmerge.exe results into Exchange database corruption and data loss situations.
Errors that crop up
Following error messages comes up on corruption due to exmerge.exe:
Error configuring message service (MSPST MS) (MAPI_E_EXTENDED_ERROR) (CmapiSession::CreateEMSPSTProfile).
Error opening message store (MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d).
Exchange database corruption occurs due to incomplete merge operation, virus infection, improper system shutdown, etc. For smooth flow of work, system administrator needs to take timely action for overcoming corruption in Exchange Server database.
